so, thanks to the people who mail(1)-ed me their experiences with acl
executables on sparc ii and 10.

the votes are two to one that the patch does not work; so, i still fell
confused.  however, it is agreed upon that the current beta version of
4.2 solves the problem and that it is a reasonable strategy to try and
move to 4.2.

well, we are waiting for the tape these days; we will see then.
