a problem with inferior Emacs

When I invoke Emacs as an inferior fork (from MM) and then invoke
inferior Exec from inside it Emacs outputs a <CR> and 24 <LF>'s so
that the screen becomes blank before actually starting Exec.  Why?
Note that it happens only when Emacs is starting up, not when it
is restarted.  My terminal is a zenith.

This is not a big problem but has been around only since very
recently.  Perhaps something got changed and can be changed back.
