dired extension

It would be nice if one could enter a subdirectory while in dired.
For instance suppose I am in my login directory <robbins> and I
enter dired and decide that I would like to continue the dired
session in <robbins.text> which is one of my subdirectories.
Kind of like doing a recursive edit on a file ....
