Control-V in my MMail emacs

We're using a version of MMAIL that was current when this MM was
current (mid July).  I'm updating the whole mailsystem this weekend
anyway and will install a new one when I do that.  But I've had
problems with MMAIL before, similar to the ones Wyn is having.  MMAIL
seems to make some broad assumptions about the state of your EMACS and
it is pretty easy to break it (or maybe I should say I have a talent
for breaking it, since most of the hairy things in Wyn's init file are
my fault).  Among other things MMAIL smashes windows and buffers
around with abandon, so you have a good chance of losing if you use
buffer initialization hooks or things like that.  Sad but true.
