uh, like ever since NCP went away, all internet hosts have
"long" host numbers. use of CVHST should be flushed in favor of
GTHST everywhere! This is done in the latest version of EMACS/TECO
being distributed out of Stanford - how does one go about making
that the default version everywhere (MIT people, where should
it be put?)
