	 Typing c-g to interrupt an extended command should also refresh 
    the screen (like c-l) and clear away the garbage in the command line.

I disagree.

1> A full redisplay takes a long time on a slow terminal (e.g. a
   dialup).
2> It echos a ^G in the command line.
