Dial Up problems

I am having problems using EMACS on OZ when dialing up (on
258-8260) Im using an AAA terminal at 1200 baud and a Racal-vadic
va3451 modem.

WHen I read in a file, everything appears to be OK, until I
start editing. ^N moves an arbitrary number of lines, sometimes
commands like ^F act as $F, but mostly I get complaints that
Im addressing a character not in the buffer, or I just get beeps
and the cursor doesnt move.

I have had no problems using EMACS when in the lab.  Also, another
user here says that EMACS works fine on MC when dialed up on the
same equipment.  Any suggestions?
