Apparently JONL wishes to maintain this all or nothing approach.
Either use a floating point formatting package or be stuck with what
LISP gives. It seems to me that as long as this parameter is an
assembly parameter, it could conceivably be made a switch. But,
I personally don't care. ES can press the point if he likes.
