LAST cdrs down a list, terminating when () is found - sigh! At least the
LISPM definition of LAST is that it terminates when **any** atom is found.
The latter definitions is crucial if one wants to find out, quickly,
whether or not a proffered list is a "standard" list (i.e., "ends" in () ).
