A suggestion for the LISP (PROBEF '((USR) FOO BAR)) problem:
Perhaps there should be a system call:
PROBEF
Which does the 'right' thing for looking for a file. It would be IDENTICAL
to OPEN except that it would set the appropriate device-dependent bits.
For DSK, this would be "Don't update reference date" (or similar); for USR,
it would be only old job, etc....
How wedged am I?
