Rubout processing and echoing is sometimes wedged.
The following is quite reproducable:
:GJC;B
(load '((blis11)wordc))
(wordc-rep^L
Right where I have indicated a ^L, you can type without
getting any re-display or rubout-processing.
Things seem to get wedged quite often on the next
form after a toplevel call to LOAD.
I typed exactly the same and observed no lossage whatsoever.
Evidently, whatever you saw isn't so easily reproducible.
