THe soon-to-be-released maclisp, version 1873, has a
function for " as a read-macro, but it is not initially
set up (so that losers who are using it in an alphabetic
way can't complain). If you do the SETSYNTAX to make
it a macro, it will "rubout" the same way as | - there
is a new variable holding an a-list for characters which
delineate string-like tokens. To get a preview, see
