The bug you describe with BADPI; during ALLOC? is well-known and indeed
aggravating. It will be fixed some day. If you're on a slow terminal, you
can win by doing ^_M to turn off more processing before you type the "?" to
ALLOC? ... it will then not pause at the bottom of the screen for more and
hence will not die so awfully ... Typing ^_M later in that job (AFTER ALLOC 
IS DONE RUNNING) will re-enable more interrupts. Sorry about the lossage. 
No one's had time to look at it in the many months since it was first reported.
