I think that TYI/TYIPEEK/READ/READLINE should check for the type of input
file and barf if it is a non-ascii (namely, binary) input file....otherwise
things such as MPV's crop up, and completely nonsensical things happen.
Unless there is some major objection, I'll go ahead with this.
