I am still quite serious about changing the default base from base 8 to base
10 in the near future. Tentative date scheduled was April 1 (yes, april
fools day but no joke) ... If anyone thinks there should be more time say so
in the next day or so (and suggest how much time is needed). Otherwise, I am
gonna send a system message announcing the planned change. Any package which
relies on a given base/ibase without setting it is not a very reliable package
anyway, so I don't think we'll break much with this much advanced notice.
