chaosnet transceivers supposedly have a pair of pullup/pulldown
resistors which try to force the input to the inactive state when
the machine is powered off. Can someone give me an example of a
transceiver known to lose? I'll look at it.

the transceiver connected to cadr3 has this problem. the cadr2 transceiver
may also.
