crufty display

the console to CADR8 is very crufty. random short horizontal lines appear
all over the screen and stay, especially when editing, and in general 
things look pretty bad. i think these problems may be due to an undebugged  
tv board; jlk was working on one on this machine earlier tonight. but the 
console has other problems -- it has always been at best barely in focus. 
can we possibly find another one that works and get this one fixed, instead 
of subjecting the hardware crew (among others) to continued eyestrain?
(it should be noted that  helps, but only somewhat and only temporarily; 
it does not erase all the lines, and when i start typing again more lines 
appear.)
