word abbrevs won't go away

Rodent Free Namespace Editor, Logical Pathname Completion patch, on PA Lisp Machine Merlin:

When Word Abbrev Mode is turned off and all Word Abbrevs have been
killed,  Save File Buffers still annoyingly continues to prompt with
"Save word abbrevs? (Y or N)".
