In the custom output-records (I have my own too), I notice within the
display method that generates the inferiors to the parent record the
call to clim-internals::move-cursor-beyond-output-record and was wondering
why it is needed? In my own particular case I haven't use such a beast
and what is the point of that call?

It just moves the text cursor past the end of the output record. Many
of the higher-level formastted output facilities use it.
