Yes. A co-worker of mine encountered exactly the same problem with WATCOM 9.5.
There seems to be no easy workaround; the error message appears after a
certain amount of code (about 105 KB of machine code).

No.

If you don't find a compiler acceptable which can compile small programs but
refuses to work on big ones, you should complain loudly to your vendor.
