Installation Problem: load

I try to install CLisp "1996-05-30 (May 1996)" under Linux,
but I get an error when I run "make interpreted.mem".
It seems that (load "xyz") is suddenly unable to find
xyz.lsp or xyz.fas files.

I get the message:
  ;; Loading of file format.lsp is finished.
  *** - A file with name user1 does not exist
  handle_fault error1 !
  *** - SIGSEGV cannot be cured. Fault address = 0x6000013C.

Perhaps anybody has an idea, what I do wrong.
