Changing default slot values (or initforms)

Is there a mechanism for altering the initforms of slots of an
existing class?  I couldn't find this in the spec, but it seems like a
useful ability.  From a top-level point of view, a user should be able
to alter the slots of an instance, or alter the default values of
those slots for the entire class.
