Whoops!  My mistake, should have put a 'pcl::' in front of
'check-super-metaclass-compatibility', i.e.

(defmethod pcl::check-super-metaclass-compatibility ((class class)
				   	             (super class-of-one))
  (declare (ignore class super))
  t)

or 

(import 'pcl::check-super-metaclass-compatibility)
