Specializing slot-missing

Here's an idea for perusal.  Is there any reason not to use
slot-missing to build a persistant object store?  It seems like a
simple way to create such a thing and it would be easy enough to write
the methods.  How about it?  Are there any operations to access the
instances that don't go through slot-value?
