Having recently joined the Internet specifically to be able to access
more details on the wonderful MCL, I have sat back and observed with utter
astonishment the heat and panic generated by the 'MCL to PowerPC'
porting question.
It is good that Apple confirm their committed to making MCL run under
emulation, but this won't be enough to keep the Important people loyal.
For Apple to be taken seriously again after such a damaging discussion,
a more credible native code commitment is vital.
Developers want to be sensible enough to continue investing their
time and efforts through periods of adversity. But if Apple themselves
start sowing seeds of doubt, this will damage or kill development right now,
not one or two years hence.
I specialise in MCL based software for commercial aircraft project design
and competitive analysis. I would be happy to give Apple the names of
nine BIG International Aerospace firms who actually went out and
bought Macs (many of them their first ever Macs, introduced despite
constant internal opposition from petty IBM-brained bureaucrats)
specifically to run MCL-based design software. It would be insane to throw
these guys overboard. In terms of sales volume this is indeed insignificant,
but such breakthroughs in mentality help ensure Apple's future.
PLEASE FIND A PARTNER for porting MCL, and please REASSURE US CONVINCINGLY.
Thanks, and fingers crossed.
