Apple has never said that they were abandoning MCL. They have said
that they themselves have no plans to port to PPC. They have also said
that they are looking for another company to partner with them to do
the port. Finally, they have not commited to somehow ensuring that MCL
does get ported.

I think this is a fair summary.

Many seem to think, not unreasonably in my opinion, that if it doesn't
get ported, it will die away.
