This is why it is such a shame that PPC support for MCL is uncertain.
The same code runs about as fast on my PowerBook 170 with MCL as it does
on a DECstation 5000 series with Allegro CL.  (I know, maybe if I
twiddled with the declarations the DECstation would be faster, but
the beauty of it is that I don't have to twiddle anything on my Mac to
get great performance.)

Thump, thump, thump (sound of me banging my head on the table).  Why
risk letting such a nifty program die of neglect?

Apologies for wasting bandwidth beating dead horses.  I just felt it
needed to be said.
