The most straightforward thing to do would be to use a locative. A
locative is like a pointer in C, it makes the implicit pointer of Lisp
explicit.

There is a locatives package I authored as part of CL-LIB 
(poke around http://www.cs.rochester.edu/u/miller/alu.html, or download
ftp://ftp.cs.rochester.edu/pub/packages/knowledge-tools/cl-lib-latest.tar.gz

Mark K. may also have it as part of the CMU archives, in which case it
should be called "locatives.lisp"
