WANTED: Special FRED window

The selected expressions in FRED windows are normally inverted, when FRED
windows are deactivated the selected expression is framed.
I want to have a FRED window, where the selected expression is not
inverted, when the window is selected, but framed, like standard
deactivation look.
After the selection only the framed area should be editable till a special
key is pressed (for example enter) and the edited text will be inserted in
the whole buffer. I thought of having an extra dialog item overlayed the
FRED window but that doesn't work quite nice.
