I agree that &keywords are ugly, and I wish someone could
think of a clean replacement for them.  Then I would
certainly be in favor of replacing them.  I have tried my
best to think of a clean replacement and I can't really
come up with one.  I can come up with other ways of doing the job
but they all have some other ugliness about them.  GLS has also
tried to find an alternative and has not come up with a truly
satisfactory one.

It's better to have the ugly &keywords than nothing at all.
