Info request: Microcomputer file transfer protocols for PC & UNIX

I am interested in sending files between an IBM XT and a UNIX based
supermicro (Onyx). I am aware of several file transfer protocols:
XMODEM, MODEM7, KERMIT-- does anyone know where I can obtain a 
spec of these (or others) protocols so that I can implement them
on the Onyx?
