I believe there was traffic on SLUG a while back about this ``feature''.
(Or maybe it was on the CommonLisp bboard).
If I recall, the compiler attempts to optimize by making a single constant
of the list (0.0 0.0). There was discussion as to whether this was
a valid assumption on the compiler's part.  So far as I know, this
is still a valid assumption as supported by the CLISP standard.
