Databases for the Symbolics
There is a database management system that runs on Symbolics machines,
called Statice, that has been announced by Symbolics. It only runs
on Symbolics machines currently. It will be available in August.
Statice is an object-oriented database system that provides real
concurrency control and recovery, using transactions. It's easy to
learn, and fits into Lisp very comfortably. It has a wide range of
datatypes, its type system is the same as Lisp's (furthermore it lets
you use presentation types), and types are extensible. It can store
images and drawings. It costs $10,000 for a single unit, and $50,000
for a site license.
