MacIvory

Any word yet on expected cost for the Mac-II upgrade?

TI is selling their Explorer-II upgrade with development software to
universities for under $5k; (16k list)... or with a Mac (80mb disk,
ethernet, tcp, chaos) for 10k (21.2k list)...

I'm curious as to what Symbolics is planning to do to position Ivory in this
market. We're already to the point that we need to put future machines
(40xx, MacIvory, or whatever) on grant proposals, so any reasonable,
approximate information as to where prices and product will be in 6-12
months would be helpful. (I realize Symbolics may not want to establish
anything official at this point, as in we will deliver such and so for $X
now, and 25% off that in 12 months. I'd hope I'd hear something like "we
expect to continue our X% off university program, and Ivory upgrades will
initially be between x and y" or "we will beat anything TI tells you" or
even "Brad, you're our pal, have some free lisp machines and don't post such
provocative material to slug anymore"... :-)

    Thanks,
    ----

I'm hearing about $8K for the add-on board. I presume this is without
any extra memory or disk -- its cheaper to buy that from Apple or third party.
