2FIRST ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON INNOVATIVE
APPLICATIONS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
0March 28-30, 1989 - Stanford University
3CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
0The American Association for Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) announces
a new conference to be held concurrently with the Spring Symposium Series.
While the National Conference on Artificial Intelligence's Technical Program
emphasizes theoretical and engineering results, this conference will highlight
twenty-five (25) of the most innovative AI applications which actually have
been deployed. This conference format will be a series of plenary and panel
sessions.
We encourage authors to submit abstracts describing the innovative applications
of expert systems as well as systems employing natural language, computational
vision, speech, robotics, and other AI technologies. We also encourage authors
to submit abstracts to show how existing technology has been applied to a new
field or an old domain in an innovative way.

If you would like to submit an abstract, please send three copies of a 3 to 5
page abstract. Pages should be no longer than 8 1/2" by 11", single-spaced
sheets. Abstracts must cover the following:
- Definition of the problem;
- brief description of the deployed application (please note if it is an
embedded or a stand alone system);
- the innovation or technological breakthrough;
- your criteria for a successfully deployed application;
- its payoff for your organization; and
- outline of how long the system has been deployed, development costs including
labor, and the length of time to transfer the system successfully into the field.
Please include two keywords describing the application's domain and the innovative
AI technology. Successful authors will be asked to prepare a final 5 to 8 page paper
for publication in the conference's proceedings. We also encourage accepted authors
to present their results using some audio-visual medium such as videotape or live
computer projection.
Top applicants for 1989 will receive the Innovative Application Award and be highlighted
in AI Magazine and national publications.
