It is not that the circuits used in Symbolics machines cannot run
other software that is run on Unix machines--it is simply that
Symbolics machines don't run it.  This is why Symbolics machines are
perceived as being special purpose.  In fact, Symbolics itself
supports this perception.  Take this section of the CLIM press
announcement as an example:
