On one of the SLUG tapes, in the hacks from Symbolics was a package for
applying time corrections to the calendar clock to keep it pretty close to
real time. The idea is to set the time exactly at one point in time and
to reset it exactly some days later. By calcuating the drift the
calendar clock had over that amount of time, the lispm then schedules
updates every so often to reset the calendar clock to compensate for its
drift.
I've used this on my machine (and our nameserver also) to keep the clock
right. I have some problems with it occasionally but it generally runs ok.
If I had a stand-alone site, I'd definitely use it.
