Re: machine doesn't know it has a tape drive



    The drive's red indicator light is on, and the cables are snugly connected.
    Any suggestions for less common causes?  Thanks --

The indicator light would normally indicate that the drive is in use,
which shouldn't be true unless the machine believes it is there.  You
might try flipping the wide ribbon cable connector 180 degrees - having
it on backwards will cause the machine to think there is no tape drive,
and might also cause the indicator to light when the machine is simply
trying to access the drive.
