It may have been asked before, but..
Does 8.1 run on 3640s and 3670's ? and
Yes.
Are any hardware upgrades required to go from a Macivory running 8.0.1 to 8.1 ?
No.
But you do have to upgrade the Mac operating system to version 6.0.7 for
Genera 8.1 to run. All the floppies needed to do this are included in
the Genera 8.1 upgrade kits for MacIvory. All the files and folders and
installer scripts are also on the Genera 8.1 CD-ROM, if you receive the
upgrade in that form.
This isn't quite correct.
To run our 8.1 Mac software, you must install both System 6.0.7 and
32-Bit QuickDraw. If you have a Radius display, you may need to upgrade
its video card to be compatible with 32-Bit QuickDraw.
You can determine whether or not your video card needs a ROM upgrade by
checking its revision level using the :Show Machine Configuration
command in Lisp. For example, if you have a Radius Two-Page Display
with a TPD interface card, you'll see the following:
NuBus slot 9: Radius Inc. Radius TPD p/n Firmware by Ron Marianetti (id #x150) rev V1.0.
For the TPD interface card, the ROM level must be at least V2.1.
(In fact, the above card needs to be upgraded!)
For the FPD interface card used with a Full-Page Display, the ROM level
must also be at least V2.1.
For the GS/C interface card which can be used with the Two-Page Display,
Full-Page Display, and Radius Color Monitors, any ROM level should be OK.
(In fact, 1:Show Machine Configuration0 can't report the ROM level of the
GS/C card.)
For compatibility with Macintosh System Software 7.0, the ROM level of
all three cards above must be at least V2.2.
If you have an video card that needs upgrading, you should contact your
Symbolics CSE.
