Extremely dead 3640

We have a 3640 which has recently developed a severe disk problem.
When you reboot it, Initialize Hardware Tables fails with a too many
retries (last error was disk ECC error) message.  Disk Restore and
Disk Format fail similarly, but one can, for instance, use Show File
on other disk files.

Naturally, the machine is not on service contract.  Does anyone have
any suggestions as to how one might resurrect this machine?
