filename limitation

Dear SLUGS,
When writing the contents of a buffer out to a UNIX machine, the
file name is limited to 14 characters long. Is there a way to
change or override this limitation? Thanks.
That is a limitation imposed by Unix, not Genera, although Genera is
careful not to violate it.
Note, 4.2BSD Unix (and its derivatives, such as 4.3BSD, Ultrix, and
SunOS) doesn't have this limitation. If the file server is BSD Unix,
the appropriate System Type in the namespace entry is UNIX42. Genera
then allows long file names.
