3600s with IFUs for sale
FOR IMMEDIATE SALE: VINTAGE 3600s with IFUs and extras
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you too can own classic 3600s with all the
fire power that mega memory and pre-fetch performance accelerators can
provide! These machines work with all the perfection that 30 years of
AI software development and 10 years of commercialization can produce:
these machines run 8.1 FLAWLESSLY!
(Sale necessitated by moving; owner converting to more portable 3620s.)
BUY A PIECE OF HISTORY: One of these machines is serial number 129 ---
that's right, the 29th 3600 ever built. Well-known to be the first 3600
for which there was a down-payment made before the first machine was
even produced! 6th machine to be installed in Washington DC (DOD
customers kept jumping the queue!). This machine has perfect paint and
has been maintained in perfect working order under complete software and
hardware maintenance from its installation in April 1983 in the Nation's
Capital (until just recently, at least, but still working fine ---
witness this e-mail missive). Believe me, spending $162,000 on
maintenance over the years insures you of a BEST BUY --- they don't come
in better condition than this classic piece of iron with the following
extraordinary features:
- Lovingly cared for by only one previous owner, former head of
Symbolics national user's group
- Complete repair history from the work of Symbolics' finest Customer
Engineers, taught how to accept offers for coffee at every visit
- 169 MByte drive in main cabinet (with IFS tape)
- Eagle 474 MByte drive in expansion cabinet with plenty of room for
more! (IFS tape misplaced somewhere, chance of finding 50-50)
- IFU working perfectly --- this machine really screams, and I don't
mean 2 circulation fans on the expansion cabinet that I already had to
disconnect
- Color CAD Buffer II --- 256 simultaneous colors from an astounding
pallette of 16M
- B & W with 50' cable
- COLOR TEK console, replaced in last 6 months with new unit straight
from manufacturer, with 50' cables that I need to snake out of the ceiling
- 3 x 2 MWord memory boards (more than you can really use in the address
space!)
- 4 x .5 MWord memory boards --- the workhorses of the era!
- Updated tape drive for tapes as dense as Symbolics cares to send you
their next immanent software release
- Original wood pallet and boxes; like any antique, its resale value is
enhanced by original packaging BUT AT NO EXTRA CHARGE
BUY ANOTHER PIECE OF HISTORY: Another 3600 with working IFU, serial
number 525, with features including:
- IFU (needs a second "Start" command on cold boot but works fine)
- 169 MByte drive (with IFS tape)
- B & W Console (slight damage to front panel: fits loosely)
- 4 x .5 MWord memory boards
- 1 x 1 MWord memory board
Also an excellent machine, bought 4 yeas ago for spares from Symbolics
for 2/115ths of the price of the base configuration of the previous machine.
Extras just for the asking to all bona fide buyers:
- 3640 with processor boards, cabinet with power supplies; no memory or console;
tape drive runs tape off end (otherwise works fine, believe me)
- 200' pre-PE-video console cable (unnavailable anywhere at any price)
- Release 7.0 Beta Test Documentation (a real piece of history that can
be yours --- just think of the future value as the history of
Symbolics is written and that unforgettable 7.0 release is remembered)
- Version 127 FEP PROMS (last version before writable FEP software ---
like getting a classic car before the complications of electronic ignition
- Version 5.0 InterLISP Compatibility Software --- the precursor to
efforts toward CommonLISP
Would consider including 3 year old 18,000 BTU air conditioner for
additional cost.
