Re: MacLisp strings

Thanks for all the replies.  I did not mean to start a
controversy, but I'm sort of glad I did, because of the
incompatibilities between the various dialects of MacLisp.  Also,
just for your information, what started this flamage was an EECS
MacLisp user who called to ask why it didn't work.  I figured out
that "samepnamep" was the right function, but I was just wondering
why that was necessary.  I had also gotten into the habit of
thinking that "equal" was the general function to use if one
wanted to know if wo objects looked alike.  I am also glad I sent
this in, as I now know the true story of how ITS MacLisp groks
