new version of GNU Emacs/Lisp interface available

Version 1.5.1 of the Franz Inc. GNU Emacs/Lisp interface is now ready
for digestion. The major changes from the last version are:

  * fi:remote-common-lisp and fi:remote-explicit-common-lisp have been
    greatly enhanced to increase their utility. For example, it used
    to be that EOF typed to a *common-lisp* created by one of these
    functions would cause the Lisp to read EOF infinitely.

  * the INTERNET domain is now the default (as opposed to the UNIX
    domain) for the communication between Lisp and Emacs. Also, the
    selection of the INTERNET port happens automagically and no longer
    is there the contraint that there can be only one emacs-lisp
    connection per machines (communicating via socket files in the
    UNIX domain never suffered from this misfeature),

  * the interface works regardless of the case-mode of the Common
    Lisp,

  * indenting for some of the trickier Common Lisp special forms and
    macros is now handled (ie, the condition system),

  * the interface as a whole is much easier to startup: no more
    hacking around with $HOME/.clinit.cl,

  * lots of bugs fixed,

  * some requested features added, and

  * much, much more...

See the ChangeLog for more details.

You can get it in the following ways:

	ftp : uunet.uu.net:/lisp/emacs-lisp-1.5.1.tar.Z
	uucp: uunet!~/lisp/emacs-lisp-1.5.1.tar.Z

This release is packaged a little different than previous ones. When
you uncompress and untar it, just move (or copy) the `fi'
directory to be a subdirectory of <...>emacs/lisp where <...> is the
path to your emacs directory. At this point, use fi/docompile.sh to
compile emacs.cl and ipc.cl (docompile.sh causes the fasl files of the
compilation to be put in the Lisp library).

At this point, you can remove old stuff from your $HOME/.clinit.cl
which started the interface--this will happen automatically, now.
