Anyone used ipc.cl? Lisp over TCP/IP?

Hi folks,

I'd like to set up my Indigo running Allegro CL as a Lisp eval-server (maybe 
more, let's start with this) to another machine sending requests over TCP/IP.

Kevin Layer (layer@franz.com) has pointed me to the code in /lib/code/ipc.cl 
as a model of how the emacs-lisp connection is done, but I'd like to check 
whether anyone out there has trod this path before I wander into this 
unfamiliar land any further.  Road maps, anyone?  :-)
