Random logging out

I have been suffering intermittently from the following behavior (not
often enough to be a real problem -- but I thought I would probe to
see if anyone else had heard of it):

Once in a while, when I proceed my Emacs job from the Exec, instead of ending
up in Emacs, I get logged out.  Nothing else gets printed out except
the usual time stamp, etc. line that gets typed on normal logout.
