Past acceptance is no excuse for continuing a crock. However, there are
so many other things that need working on that I would not seriously
suggest that you drop everything just to fix this one. I was just really
taken aback to see truncation being done in LISP. Why was it ever
implemented that way in the first place? (Let me guess: table lookup
of STATUS functions by snarfing the first 5 chars of the pname, right?
