On lisp machine 1, 29.95 nws with microcode 669. you are in the editor in dired mode.
If you view some files that look like qfasl files you get hung in such a way that only
<call> will get you out.  When you go back to the editor you discover there was an error
saying that some argument to plus, nil, was of the wrong type.  The editor immediately
resets itself and leaves you at dired top level.  The files I was looking at were:
  ai:mini;diag magtap and ai:mini;pnlbod drw
