I basically like this idea although I am hardly sure I can see all of
the consequences that might ensue. One little thing: the warnings of
the form "the undefined function FOO was called by BAR and BAZ", which
appear at the end of a compilation context, have to go someplace.
Another little nice thing about this idea is that if the editor is
broken (or not yet loaded or otherwise not all there), compilations can
proceed anyway. This is a consequence of the decoupling of the editor
and compiler that you mentioned.
