Forgive me if this already exists, but how about new commands: DASHIFY-WORD UNDASHIFY-WORD probably mounted on one of the bucky-hyphens. When-placed-on-a-word-the-command-DASHIFY-WORD-would-put-a- dash-between-it-and-the-next-word. Undashify would be the obvious inverse operation.
